about bleach

Bleach is a highly popular shounen manga series by Tite Kubo. Centering around a fifteen year old boy named Ichigo Kurosaki, the plotline follows his life after he meets Rukia Kuchiki, a shinigami, and becomes a shinigami himself by accidentally stealing her powers. Afterwards, he dedicates himself (after being forced by Rukia) to doing the job of a shinigami, namely purifying evil souls called Hollows, while Rukia regains her powers. Some time later, Rukia gets taken back to the Soul Society by her brother and the captain of the Sixth Division, Byakuya, and his liuetenant and Rukia's childhood friend, Renji Abarai. Of course, Ichigo feels obligated to go rescue her, and goes off to the Soul Society, and this is where he meets Hanatarou.

about hanatarou

Hanatarou Yamada is the seventh seat of Fourth Division, making him talented in healing. His zanpakutou, Hisagomaru, is unique in that it heals wounds instead of causing them. This causes a red gauge to fill, and when the gauge is full, the shikai is activated and Hisagomaru, then called Akeiri Hisagomaru, releases a blast equivalent to the amount of wounds healed.

Hanatarou's first name literally means something to the effect of "son of the big flower". It is likely a combination of the names Tarou Yamada and Hanako Yamada, the equivalents of John Doe and Jane Doe respectively. Though Hanatarou says that most people find his name easy to remember, Ichigo claims it is difficult and would have been easier to remember if it were simply Tarou or Hanako. His last name, Yamada, is a relatively common Japanese surname.

Hanatarou is notably naive (hence the site name) and timid, and tends to be clumsy. This leads to people bullying him and pulling practical jokes on him as a result, such as when his version of the energy supplement given to all members of Fourth Division is actually a placebo made of flour. His birthday even falls on April Fools' Day, so people spend the whole day pulling pranks on him. He states in an omake chapter that he is "the most bullied kid in the world".

about hanatarou's role

Hanatarou meets Ichigo when Ichigo and Ganju Shiba are attempting to run after defeating Ikkaku Madarame and Yumichika Ayasegawa, but encounter several members of the Eleventh Division. Ichigo and Ganju attempt to take Hanatarou hostage in return for the other shinigami letting them go, but they don't realize the hatred towards Fourth Division felt by Eleventh Division, and that the Eleventh Division members are indifferent to Hanatarou's death. This causes their plan to backfire, forcing Ichigo and Ganju to fight their way out.

After defeating all the Eleventh Division members in their way, Hanatarou leads Ichigo and Ganju to the Senzaikyuu where Rukia is being kept through the sewers. Since Fourth Division is tasked with cleaning them, Hanatarou knows how to navigate through them while other shinigami outside of his division would not. After they get to the Senzaikyuu, Ichigo fights Renji, and though Ichigo wins, he sustains wounds. Hanatarou heals him and they continue onwards into the tower.

Ichigo then battles against Captain Kenpachi Zaraki, sending Hanatarou and Ganju ahead to find Rukia. While Ichigo is fighting, they find Rukia and are about to rescue her when they sense Rukia's brother, Byakuya Kuchiki, coming towards them. Hanatarou, inspired by Ichigo and Ganju's actions, decides to start standing up for his beliefs and attempts to hold off Byakuya and tells Ganju to take Rukia and leave, but is still overwhelmed by Byakuya's spiritual pressure. Ganju attempts to fight Byakuya, but is injured by Byakuya's shikai attack. Ichigo then flies onto the bridge where they all are, and tries to fight Byakuya. Yoruichi Shihouin rescues Ichigo and Byakuya leaves, claiming to have lost interest. Hanatarou is then imprisoned by Captain Juushirou Ukitake, but is later set free by his friend Rikichi, who wants him to heal Renji after his fight with Byakuya.
